April 28, 2015
The men of the Tenth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., congratulate Loretta Lynch on being sworn-in on April 27, 2015, as the U.S. Attorney General. Loretta Lynch is the first African American Woman to serve as the United States’ top law enforcement official, and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. This is a historical moment in our time, given the current climate in our country.
Loretta Lynch takes over from Eric Holder, the first African American to hold the position. We have full faith and confidence that she will be committed to justice and the protection of civil rights for all.
We are aware of the protest and riots occurring in Baltimore following the death and funeral of Freddie Gray, an unarmed Black man, who reportedly died while in the custody of the Baltimore Police Department. Our prayers go out to the Gray family. We recognize the right to, and the importance of, protest. Men of Omega, should you protest please do so safely, peacefully and within the confines of the law. Unlawful rioting and looting is never condoned. Men of Omega, continue to be leaders in your communities, as we watch our Brothers in Baltimore stand against looting and rioting, and for civil rights and justice. Let us continue to lift as we climb!
Fraternally,
Brother Hon. Steven G. Watkins 35th Tenth District Representative
